GERAI DAGING & AYAM BAKAR LIDO, KOTA BHARU, KELANTAN

When I first visited Kota Bharu in 1996, I had problems in adapting to the local dishes. However, I was lucky to have been introduced to this gerai (stall) by my ex-teamleader, Mr Soon Kim Poh (now migrated to New Zealand). The gerai serves special daging bakar and ayam bakar. I had it with plain rice and some gulai. And it was love at first taste! Also thanks to Tiga Abdul photographer, Mr Sham who had recently visited Kota Bharu. He captured some photos with his handphone, just for me to tell about the special Daging Bakar here.

Both the daging bakar and ayam bakar are so special as it is served directly from the top of the burning charcoals. It tastes so original and fresh. We can have it with rice or just like that. The stall is located at Jalan Sultanah Zainab in Kota Bharu. To be exact, the gerai is right on the Sg Kelantan riverbank near the Diamond Puteri Hotel. Business hour starts around 11.00 am and end before night falls.

The Famous Restoran Zaman Nasi Lemak in Kuantan

The Famous Restoran Zaman Nasi Lemak

If you are asking for the best Nasi Lemak in Kuantan? Restoran Zaman is the place to be!!! Why? You cannot get a seat if you trying to have a late 9am breakfast in the weekend coz Singaporeans are all over the place. The Nasi Lemaklaaa that’s why? For those who are Nasi Lemak virgin out there… Nasi Lemak is rice boiled with coconut milk served with anchovies, malay sambal, boiled or fried eggs and cucumber. Nowadays they even offered fried chicken, sambal kerang, sambal paru and more.

Other than Nasi Lemak, restoran Zaman offered Roti Prata / Roti Canai and some malay kueh. But they were nothing compared with thiew Nasi Lemak. Wrapped holistically by fresh banana leaves, the Nasi Lemak gave a mouth watering aroma just by seating next to them. Oh BTW, I had 2 helpings. Please be cautious as the sambal could be too spicy for some.

How to go there? If you guys are from Kuantan. Take the road to Gambang or the Airport. It is only less than a kilometer AFTER the airport junction. Keep left and you wont miss the HUGE Restoran Zaman sign. You could almost smell the Nasi Lemak from there. He he he

Still wondering how am I gonna go to Kuantan all the way from KL just to have this special Nasi Lemak. I got cravings already. Ow God!!!

The Real Kemaman Kopitiam. Best in Kuantan and the East Coast.

Value Meal Set
The Real Kemaman Kopitiam

Like mushroom at a damp place. Suddenly we see Kopitiam sprucing up all over
the country. We see the likes of Pak Li Kopitiam, Old Town Kopitiam, Keluang
Station Kopitiam to name a few. But the Real Kopitiam is in Kemaman, way
before all this commercial kopitiam. Is located in the town of Kemaman
became instant hit to the long distance travelers from KL to Kelantan or
Terengganu.

Kemaman Kopitiam (KK) has also joined the band wagon due to good demand from
Kuantan folks. KK opened up two branches in Kuantan alone and has plans to
go to the Klang Valley. The flagship kopitiam is located just across the street from Berjaya
Megamall Kuantan.

Hmmm what to eat there? What else to eat at a Kopitiam? Toast and Half
Boiled Eggs. My favorite will be 3 quarter boiled eggs. The Ice Black Coffee
is ...Ah Sedapnya!! You guys better try them. It will cost you only RM 7 for
that whole set. You can also have noodles, nasi lemak and delicious malay
kueh for your afternoon craving or any craving time.

You don't wanna miss this if you are in Kuantan. Way better and cheaper than
Starbucks. (OK that's too much) but worth visiting. Believe me. Drop your
comments when you're done tasting.

I see you use American spelling in your write up. Very good. Down with the British and support us American with spelling modern spelling such as COLOR, RACKET, FLAVOR, GRAY, NEIGHBOR etc. *clap clap clap* very good. I see Malaysian and the world is becoming very much more stupid because you guys can't spell proper so you have to rely on US AMERICANS to teach you how to spell proper with our SPELL CHECK IN THE AMERICAN MADE COMPUTER. Terminal Sate Zul. The best Sate in Kuantan.

Terminal Sate Zul… The best meat on sticks in the East Coast

If you think Hj. Samuri Sate Kajang is the best in the West Coast, meet Zul Sate Terminal, the best Sate in the East Coast. Located on the way to Teluk Chempedak from Kuantan City just after Vistana Hotel near the traffic lights, it is a force to be reckon with.

Dubbed Sate Terminal due to the take-away looked like one of the ticket counters in Pudu Bus Terminal. You can order on-the-go or eat in. While ordering you could enjoy the sight of several Sate grillers grilling Sate. Your kids will love it. Heck, I enjoyed looking at them too.

Eating in? You have the option of eating inside and have an al fresco dining. I would have choose inside as it is quite dusty and smoky due to its close proximity to the main road. The Sate, nut sauce and the ketupat was marvelous. Do not miss this whenever you are in Kuantan

teringat makan sate popular kat Jalan Semarak, KL, dekat Celcom building. Sate memang sedap, tapi yg tak sedapnya, layanan yang paling tak memuaskan. Itulah orang kita ni, kalau dah maju sikit, lupa masa susah payah dulu. Tue 18-Sep-2007 04:11

Nasi Kandar Raihan juga dikenali sebagai Nasi Ganja

Nasi Kandar Raihan juga dikenali sebagai Nasi Ganja

We went to Raihan Nasi Kandar just before Friday prayers last week. He has
been bugging me with all these stories on how good Raihan Nasi Kandar is.
Just to prove his claims, we went to Glenmarie, Shah Alam. He is paying for
it!!

As we arrived, I was greeted with this familiar aroma of curry which
actually provoked my interest to find out more. The array of offerings on
the aluminum counter is so rich and I was tempted to try all. I quickly
ordered beef and fish Nasi Kandar. Extra lady fingers for me please.

We straight away went to out seats and indulge ourselves in this beautiful
meals. My colleague had Nasi Kandar Ayam. Am more old skool or rather
traditional. Real penangites eat Nasi Kandar with Beef and Fish. It was
great. I have found an alternative to Zainul Nasi Kandar in PJ. At it is so
near to my house and I could have them in almost every other meal now. Wow!!

Raihan Nasi Kandar or RNK is located in Glenmarie near the tyre workshops.
If you are entering Glenmarie from Shah Alam Stadium or Giant, turn right at
the 1st traffic light you see. If you are entering Shah Alam from Glenmarie,
turn left on the 2nd last traffic lights into the row of workshop and shop
houses. You won't miss it. Worst case scenario, do not feel hesitate to ask
around if you are lost. Enjoy. Tell us your comments when you are done
tasting.

Smile.... you're on Good Food

Thank god legal Ganja is still around. Nasi Ganja that is. Don't say we did
not warn you!!! BTW, the Nasi Kandar Ayam will costs you only RM 4,
approximately RM1 cheaper than most Commercialised Mamak and Nasi Kandar
joints.

Pulau Ketam Chinese Muslim Restaurant

View all 4 photos...
Restoran Cina Muslim Kita

Ahhh!!! I love Chinese Food. I have enough of Nasi Campur and mamak stalls except of course... Nasi Kandaq. But seriously, Chinese Food are something you rarely eat.

Why? it is so hard to get Halal Chinese Food around. Even the one in Food Courts are sometime very doubtful. Yes, there are a lot of Kopitiam sprouting all over Klang Valley nowadays. But Kopitiams are more like for Breakfast and Snack. Not REAL eating experience. This restaurant have so much to offer. Further more Halal Chinese Restaurants in hotels are so expensive. This Restaurant Really have something different to offer!!

Located in Taman Seri Andalas, Klang, eat is the local favorite especially for Muslims who wanted some difference. If you happen to be in the vicinuty, plse do not miss this. It is just 5 minutes away from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital aka Klang GH, 10 minutes away from Giant Hypermarket Klang and 15 minutes away from the infamous local Klang state assemblyman's Istana Idaman

A lot of great stuff you can get here. Among my favorite are the Fried Rice, Contonese Froed Koay Teow, Chicken Rice and a lot more. You can also order chicken in cashew nut, chicken with dried chillies, asparagus garlic, and a lot more. Plse also order the home made Cincau and Soya bottled drinks. There were really great!!

I beg to all entreprenuers out there, please kindly drop by, hava taste, and invest on expansion of the same Restaurant in a populated Muslim areas such as Shah Alam, Ampang or Damansara. Please believe me. This is pure Halal. It is almost like a Mamak Restaurant. Eat without any doubt!!

nampak sedap betullah, saya mmg minat chinese food. tapi jauh sangat, kat klang (dari gombak). anyway, mana tahu sesat kat klang one day mesti cari restoran ni. Sat 21-Apr-2007 03:32

i truly think that halal chinese food can really do (well among malay customers. just make sure that the food is prepared in a certified halal way as the malays (me myself) are pretty sensitive about the issue. but chinese food really kick-ass big time. simple yet delicious. Thu 12-Jul-2007 15:22

View all 4 photos...

I do not like coffee. I do not even like tea. But here I just cannot stop my self from ordering coffee, cup after cups. Even an Italian Barista wud agree with me if i cud ever bring him down here. At "Angau" as this joint was popularly nicknamed, You can have Hailam White Coffee!!!.

And Hailam Black Coffee. Both are GREATT. Hey Mr. Starbucks. You better add this to yr menu. I also happen to Love their Kopi -o- peng. Wah Laa weh!! Sedap oooo!!!.

If you are hungry, you cud have the coffee with Nasi Lemak, Fried Meehoon, Fried noodle packed in banana leaves and old newspaper. Get your friend. You cud have a seafront view as well.

OK OK OK How to go there. Drive down the federal Highway from KL STRAIGHTTTTT until the very end. You'll see a Port Klang KTM Commuter station on your right and Pulau Ketam Ferry Terminal on your left. Cross the railway line and immediately take a right turn. The "Angau Coffee Stalls" is located under a tree just before the Harbor Master Office (Jabatan Laut). You won't miss that. Plse ask around if you hve over shoot to the Harbor Master Office or The Royal Selangor Yacht Club.

GERAI ROTI BAKAR 45, AMPANGAN, NEGERI SEMBILAN

Depan Plaza Ampangan!
Gerai No. 45
Roti Telur Goreng & French Fries
View all 8 photos...
Last week, I went to Senawang to visit my uncle. During my visit, he took me to a Roti Bakar Stall in Ampangan. As a bread lover, this is an opportunity that I can't resist.
The Roti Bakar Stall is located in a food court at the opposite of Plaza Ampangan. I was very excited when I reached there. Looking at the price menu, I thought it is just suitable for Malaysia's Good Food Fotopages.

The stall only offers breads that are prepared in different styles. There are Roti Telur Goreng (French Toast), Roti Kukus (Steamed bread), Burgers, Banjo & Hot Dog. Roti Telur Goreng can be requested with French Fries of Sardines. Roti Kukus are served with the Kaya.
It was a cool experience for me as I had a burger and a set of Roti Telur Goreng. But the main point is the price of the foods. Roti Telur Goreng is only RM1.00 (RM1.50 with French Fries), Roti Kukus is RM0.80, Beef or Chicken Burger is only RM1.50 each and Roti Bakar Biasa is only RM0.60.

If you are looking for some light snacks in the night of Seremban, try this one. It's simple but creative and won’t affect much from you pockets!

dear chubbyle,
if u're looking for roti kukus, i think it should be found easily at the nearest kopitiam near you, most probably chinese-style kedai kopi as it is a v.common 'delicacy' besides the usual roti bakar. maybe we should ask for roti stim instead as both are quite the same, if not the same thing

Lorong rahsia tempat goreng karipap sedap!
Karipap panas dipikul untuk dijual di Stesen LRT Masjid Jamek...
View all 6 photos...

If you get down from a train at the Masjid Jamek on any morning, try the Karipap Panas here. There are 2 boys selling the Hot & Spicy Karipap here in the morning (7.30am-9.00am) and evening (5.00pm-7.00pm). They normally opened a small table with plenty of hot karipap on it. You will not going to miss this!

The reason for me to recommend this popular kueh is because of its' wonderful taste, fresh from the kitchen and very cheap. It cost you only RM1 for 3 pieces of Karipap. Sometime, we gotta believe that there is still some cheap & good food available in KL. And we should always remember that cheap doesn't mean lousy, and expensive doesn't mean good…

ZAINUL NASI KANDAR, PETALING JAYA.

Turun kat stesen LRT Taman Jaya, PJ...
Ignore Kelab Syabas...
Yellow & Blue Building!
View all 10 photos...

This is no fairy tales, but a piece of my family's history. My uncle told me
that my grandfather, Haji Salleh Bin Haji Omar was a regular customer here.
After leaving Penang for a career in Port Klang, my grandfather was in
search for a good nasi kandar. As an original island man, my grandfather was
very particular about the taste of Nasi Kandar. He was a very selective
person. However, my uncle told me that there was a stall in Petaling Jaya
that has actually attracted my grandfather for a frequent visits. He could
travel all the way from Port Klang to Petaling Jaya just to have a good
lunch.

After searching and asking all my uncles, I finally found that Zainul Nasi
Kandar was a winner to my grandfather's difficult satisfaction. I tried to
find out more from many friends who live in Petaling Jaya and found that
Zainul Nasi Kandar is still operating at the new town (PJ State).

So, I planned a visit. Accompanied by my friend, Mr. Firdaus of UOB, we took
the LRT from Masjid Jamek to Taman Jaya. As we walked down the station, we
could see clearly Amcorp Mall and the historical Drive-In A&W Restaurant. We
walked along the road passing through Shah's Village, Kelab Syabas and Maju
Curry House, until we saw a yellow & blue building at a junction. As we
entered the building, we were surprise to witness such a crowd lining up for
nasi kandar. It was a different situation here comparing to many nasi kandar
outlets in KL that I has visited.

I had nasi kandar with beef while Firdaus had it with fried chicken. It was
worth to travel and be part of a very long queue. The taste was amazing. I
could feel the different of the variety mixed curry. Each curry has it's own
special taste. And the curries were all delicious. Now I understood about
those crazy crowds. Nasi Kandar Zainul deserves to be labeled as the best
Nasi Kandar in Petaling Jaya and maybe the Klang Velley until I found a
better one.

I can forgive the inclusions of Begedel, Tauhu Sambal and Taugeh, I can also
forgive the fried chicken to be part of their attraction as their curries
didn't fade to all the side attractions. But I was a little frustrated to
realize that there were not enough Bendi and no Telur Rebus. However, it was
all about their curries that matter. People came to Zainul Nasi Kandar for
their good curries. I have to accept that they had some minor alterations on
their nasi kandar mixtures to meet the different style of Klang Valley
taste. But, their nasi kandar still survives as the main attraction and no
doubt about it.

Finally, to all the homesick Penangites out there, this is a place for a
little relief...
